Update from Playa Del Carmen Mexico

Hurricane Dean made its presence felt up and down the Eastern coast of the Yucatan penninsula early Tuesday morning.  Most of the hurricane force winds and damage was more to the South near Costa Maya, Chetumal, and the border of Belize.  Cancun and Playa Del Carmen felt more like a tropical storm type winds and rain rather than hurricane force winds.  In Playa Del Carmen various parts of the city lost power for a few hours, however, almost 100% of all services appear to be restored by 2pm Tuesday.  Hurricane Dean was not anywhere near the monster that hurricane Wilma was back in 2005.  Also Dean moved at a much faster pace and was out of the area in less than 10 to 12 hours.  Compare that with Wilma 2 years ago that stayed in the area from Cozumel, Playa, and Cancun for approximately 50 hours.

Now all of the homes and businesses that were shuttered and boarded up for hurricane protection will be uncovered and it is anticipated that most everything will return to normal by Wednesday morning.  A growing concern was that the ruins in Tulum Mexico might be damaged but at this time no reports have indicated any problems with the ancient Mayan ruins caused by the hurricane.   There are still reports coming in on damage along the Costa Maya and Chetumal.  Riviera Maya Real Estate News will keep everyone updated as new information is made available.
